About Runook
Runook is the Forward Deployed Engineering company for every business that's been priced out of enterprise AI.
Wall Street banks have Palantir. Fortune 500s have OpenAI's Applied AI team. Every other business in America — your local CPA, your favorite Flushing dim sum spot, the freight broker shipping your Amazon order — has been priced out of AI. We're changing that.
Founded by engineers and operators, we run two product lines in parallel:
- Vertical AI products — AI systems we've shipped in production that customers use every day.
- An AI deployment service — we embed with traditional SMBs, map their workflows, and ship microservice-based automations that ingest information, analyze it, route notifications, and assign tasks — at 1/10th the cost of legacy consulting firms.
We've already replaced 8 internal headcount with AI workflows we built for ourselves. Now we're scaling that playbook to thousands of customers.
- Stage: Pre-seed / early revenue
- Team: Small, technical, bilingual (English + Mandarin), high-agency
- Customers: NYC / NJ Chinese-American SMBs across logistics, accounting, real estate, beauty, healthcare, F&B
Our values
- Ship before you slide-deck.
- The customer's workflow is the spec.
- "I don't know how" is fine; "I can't figure it out" isn't.
- Bilingual fluency is a feature, not a footnote.
About the role
We have product. We have early customers. We have a real differentiated story (Forward Deployed Engineering for SMBs, taught by working engineers, bilingual). What we don't have yet is a marketing machine that turns that story into 10x our current pipeline.
That's you.
You'll own marketing from positioning to demand gen to community to content — and you'll be hands-on across all of them until we hire under you.
This is a growth marketer / generalist role, not a brand-marketer or pure-designer role. Numbers matter. So does taste.
What you'll do
- Own the funnel end-to-end — top of funnel (content, ads, events, partnerships) all the way through MQL → SQL → paying customer.
- Run our content engine in two languages — long-form (blog, LinkedIn articles, WeChat 公众号), short-form (TikTok, IG Reels, 小红书), and email / CRM nurture flows. Use our customer cases as seed material and turn each into 10+ pieces of content.
- Plan and execute our lecture & event program — Runook × Kenvic monthly seminars, Chamber of Commerce talks, vertical industry meetups (logistics, accounting, real estate). Each event is a content + lead-gen + community moment.
- Run paid acquisition where it makes sense — Meta, Google, LinkedIn, WeChat 朋友圈广告 — only with crisp attribution and ROI discipline.
- Build community — WeChat groups, LinkedIn presence, Discord / Slack for power users, alumni network for AI Academy graduates.
- Partner with the FDE and PM teams to harvest customer stories, get testimonials, and write case studies.
- Own the website, the careers page, and our public-facing brand voice.
What we look for
Must have
- Some marketing or growth experience — could be at a B2B / B2C startup, agency work, running marketing for a club / non-profit / family business, or a personal creator brand with real traction. We care that you've moved a number, not your job title.
- You've owned a funnel — you know what CAC, LTV, MQL→SQL conversion, and payback period mean and you have opinions on them.
- Strong writing in both English and Mandarin — non-negotiable for this role. You'll write copy for both audiences and they require very different voices.
- Comfortable being hands-on with the actual platforms (Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Analytics, WeChat 公众号 backend, HubSpot / Mailchimp, etc.). You'll learn whatever you don't already know.
- Strong design taste even if you're not the designer. You can brief / direct / give feedback like a creative director.
- Energetic about events — half our marketing in year 1 is in-person seminars + community.
Nice to have
- Experience marketing to SMBs (especially Chinese-American SMBs) or via community channels (WeChat, 小红书).
- Background in education / B2B SaaS / vertical SaaS / professional-services marketing.
- Video production chops (CapCut, Premiere) or AI video tools (HeyGen, Runway, Sora).
- Sales-adjacent experience — comfortable demoing product, doing webinars, training partners.
You're a fit if
- You can write a LinkedIn post and a 小红书笔记 in the same hour, and they both feel native.
- You'd rather run one experiment and measure it than ship five "campaigns."
- You read the analytics dashboard like other people read the news.
We don't care about
- MBA / marketing-degree pedigree.
- Whether you've ever held the literal title "Marketing Manager" before.
- Years at a brand-name agency.
Why this role at Runook
- You'll be the first marketing hire. You'll define the function and recruit your future team.
- You have real material to work with — vertical case studies with hard numbers, a builder-led origin story, a Forward Deployed Engineer differentiator, bilingual reach into a market most US startups don't touch.
- For exceptional contributors: clear path to a full-time founding-team role and Head of Marketing / Head of Growth as we grow.
How we hire
Our process is fast (typically 1–2 weeks):
- Intro chat (30 min) — with a founder. You learn about us, we learn about you.
- Take-home (~3 hours) — design a real campaign for the AI Academy launch. We give you the constraints (budget, time, channels), you give us the plan, copy samples (English + Mandarin), and the metrics you'd track. We discuss together.
- Working session (~2 hours, in-person or video) — meet 2–3 people on the team, walk through your plan, iterate live.
- Offer.
We give detailed feedback within 5 business days of any stage. Always.
How to apply
Send the following to info@runook.com (or DM a founder on LinkedIn):
- Subject line:
Marketing — Your Name - One paragraph: "What's a campaign, post, event, or community moment you ran that you're most proud of? What was the result, and what would you do differently?"
- Resume or LinkedIn.
- Optional but appreciated: links to your best work — a campaign, a piece of writing, a video, a community you built, an event you ran. English or Mandarin both welcome.
We read every application. We respond within 7 days.
