About Runook

Runook is the Forward Deployed Engineering company for every business that's been priced out of enterprise AI.

Wall Street banks have Palantir. Fortune 500s have OpenAI's Applied AI team. Every other business in America — your local CPA, your favorite Flushing dim sum spot, the freight broker shipping your Amazon order — has been priced out of AI. We're changing that.

Founded by engineers and operators, we run two product lines in parallel:

  1. Vertical AI products — AI systems we've shipped in production that customers use every day.
  2. An AI deployment service — we embed with traditional SMBs, map their workflows, and ship microservice-based automations that ingest information, analyze it, route notifications, and assign tasks — at 1/10th the cost of legacy consulting firms.

We've already replaced 8 internal headcount with AI workflows we built for ourselves. Now we're scaling that playbook to thousands of customers.

  • Stage: Pre-seed / early revenue
  • Team: Small, technical, bilingual (English + Mandarin), high-agency
  • Customers: NYC / NJ Chinese-American SMBs across logistics, accounting, real estate, beauty, healthcare, F&B

Our values

  • Ship before you slide-deck.
  • The customer's workflow is the spec.
  • "I don't know how" is fine; "I can't figure it out" isn't.
  • Bilingual fluency is a feature, not a footnote.

About the role

You'll own product for one of our surfaces — most likely the FDE engagement platform or the AI Academy — depending on your background and where you want to lean in.

We don't believe in PMs who write specs and watch engineers build. We believe in PMs who run customer discovery, draft prompts, prototype in v0 / Lovable, write the RFC, and ship alongside the team.

You're the person who turns "what 50 customers said in interviews this month" into "what we ship next quarter that grows revenue 3x."

What you'll do

  • Own a product surface end-to-end — discovery, scoping, prioritization, design, launch, retention metrics.
  • Run weekly customer interviews (3–8/week) — you'll know our users better than they know themselves.
  • Write crisp PRDs / RFCs that engineers can run with — and prototype the hard parts yourself in v0 / Lovable / Figma instead of waiting on someone else.
  • Define and own the metrics that matter — activation, retention, LTV, NPS, churn. Make every team decision in service of moving them.
  • Partner with our FDE team to turn 1-off customer deployments into productized features (the moment we see something twice, you should be making it generic).
  • Help shape pricing and packaging — our L1 / L2 / L3 architecture is real and you'll iterate on it.
  • Be a strong customer voice in engineering planning — push back when we're building for ourselves instead of users.

What we look for

Must have

  • Some product experience — could be at a B2B / SaaS company, a startup, a hackathon team, a student-built product, or a side project that real users used. We care that you've shipped, not your job title.
  • Strong written communication. Your PRDs should make engineers say "got it" not "wait, what?"
  • Quantitative chops — you can write SQL, read a cohort retention chart, and argue with growth marketers using numbers.
  • Customer obsession — you genuinely enjoy talking to small business owners (even when they're frustrated, especially when they're frustrated).
  • Bias to prototype — you'd rather show than tell. You've used at least one of: v0, Lovable, Figma, Cursor, Bolt, Replit Agent, or built a tool yourself in code.

Nice to have

  • Bilingual (English + Mandarin) — preferred but not required. About half our customer interviews are in Mandarin, and you'll have FDE / Marketing teammates who can help.
  • Domain experience in logistics, accounting, real estate, or another SMB-heavy vertical.
  • Some technical depth — you've written code, used LLM APIs, or built a tool yourself.
  • Pricing or packaging experience.

You're a fit if

  • You'd rather get on the phone with a customer than reschedule the meeting.
  • You read your own user-research notes the night before a planning meeting.
  • You think "no roadmap" is solvable, not scary.

We don't care about

  • MBA / Ivy / brand-name pedigree.
  • Years of "PM at FAANG." Strong builders from unconventional paths welcome.
  • Whether you've ever held the literal title "Product Manager" before.

Why this role at Runook

  • You'll have real autonomy. We hire PMs to lead product, not project-manage tickets.
  • You'll be one of the first product hires — your fingerprints will be on the product DNA for years.
  • You'll work alongside FDEs who are out with customers every week, so you'll never lack signal.
  • For exceptional contributors: clear path to a full-time founding-team role and Head of Product / vertical-lead positions as we grow.

How we hire

Our process is fast (typically 1–2 weeks):

  1. Intro chat (30 min) — with a founder. You learn about us, we learn about you.
  2. Take-home (~3 hours) — write a 2-page PRD on a real product question we have. We discuss it together.
  3. Working session (~2 hours, in-person or video) — we'll pick a live product question, you facilitate a working session with 2 people on the team. We watch how you think.
  4. Team conversation (~1 hour) — meet 1–2 more people you'd work with.
  5. Offer.

We give detailed feedback within 5 business days of any stage. Always.

How to apply

Send the following to info@runook.com (or DM a founder on LinkedIn):

  1. Subject line: PM — Your Name
  2. One paragraph: "Describe a product or feature you shipped that you're most proud of. What problem did it solve, how did you know, and what would you do differently?"
  3. Resume or LinkedIn.
  4. Optional but appreciated: a link to a PRD, a prototype, or a writeup of a product you've led.

We read every application. We respond within 7 days.
